PAIN DISABILITY INDEX:

MEASURING DISABILITY ARISING FROM PAIN

In contrast to Massage Monitor which is yet to be fully tested for validity and reliability, the Pain Disability Index (as shown below) has had extensive and satisfactory testing, and could be helpful as a before / after measure for the effects of massage. The editor has successfully used this and masseurs may find it a helpful instrument in assessing the practical value of their efforts, to accompany the patients satisfaction as evidenced in Massage Monitor.

PATIENT ASSESSMENT OF IMPACT OF PAIN ON ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING

The rating scales below tell us how much your pain is preventing you from doing what you would normally do, or from doing it as well as you normally would.

Please indicate the overall impact of pain in your life (not just when the pain is at its worst) by circling the number on the scale which describes best the level of disability you feel.

A score of zero means no disability at all and a score of 10 means that the activity is impossible because of the pain.
